Germany – The New Land of Opportunity for Young Hoteliers: A comparison to the American Dream
In the ever-changing global employment landscape 2023, young hoteliers seeking better career options and brighter futures are finding new opportunities in an unexpected place – Germany.
As a seasoned expert in the hospitality industry, I am excited to shed light on this emerging trend and draw a comparison between the job destination Germany and the once-favored migration to the USA and the American Dream.
Today, Germany has become a dream destination for individuals from various nationalities, particularly well-educated young Indian hoteliers, offering rewarding options and a wealth of benefits.
Join me as we explore the advantages of working in Germany and the opportunities it presents for ambitious young professionals who are ready to invest in their future and a better life.
The Challenge for Young Hoteliers:
In India but also in Africa many hotel school graduates face the challenge of limited job opportunities, with only 55% finding promising positions. The remaining 45% struggle and countless talented individuals are forced to settle for mediocre companies due to a scarcity of high-quality jobs, not only in the hotel industry but also across other sectors.
Germany’s Growing Demand for Hoteliers:
On the other hand, Germany is experiencing a significant labor shortage, particularly in the hospitality industry. The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga Bundesverband) reports a deficit of over 65,000 employees in hotels and restaurants. The demand for skilled hoteliers is continuously rising, making it an ideal destination for those seeking professional growth.
The Chancenkarte:
Opening New Doors: Germany has introduced a points-based Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) system to support the labor market and attract skilled professionals worldwide. For Germany’s progressive change, this considers various factors such as qualifications, professional experience, age, German language skills, and ties to Germany. This opens doors for young Indian hoteliers to pursue exciting opportunities in Germany. But also for those who plan long-term immigration into Europe.
As an advocate for young Indian hoteliers, I actively and frequently collaborate with industry decision-makers to facilitate the seamless entry of individuals from India into the German hotel job market. These collaborations provide exceptional opportunities and honest support to those who can integrate quickly and succeed in their professional pursuits in Germany’s hospitality industry. The Benefits of Working in Germany are substantial, and the country offers a plethora of advantages that make it an enticing destination for ambitious individuals:
- Competitive Salaries and Economic Stability: Germany’s robust economy ensures competitive salaries and financial stability.
- Generous Social Benefits: The country’s well-established social welfare system includes comprehensive healthcare, family, and unemployment benefits, creating a supportive worker environment.
- Work-Life Balance: Germany emphasizes work-life balance, promoting employee well-being and productivity.
- Career Advancement: With a thriving job market and a dynamic business landscape, Germany offers ample opportunities for career growth.
- Green and Clean cities, streets, parks, tourist destinations nearby, and an overall good standard of living and excellent public transportation. Yes, trains may be late at times but compare the system in Germany to country roads and bus traffic in India or Africa, and you will know what I mean.
Let me be as straightforward as I can. I have lived in many countries and continents, and Western Europe, especially Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, are some of the cleanest and organised countries I have found anywhere. For someone who is young, independent, ambitious and even a bit adventurous there are few places in this world which beat Western Europe and especially Germany with regards to opportunities, lifestyle and career advancement. I never thought I would write a promotional blog for working in Germany but times have changed especially for the new and upcoming generation of international hoteliers.
While the USA was once synonymous with the American Dream, Germany has emerged as a strong contender. Germany’s focus on social benefits, work-life balance, and integration efforts make it an attractive option for international talent. The only challenge to overcome really is the language barrier. A basic understanding of German is a requirement but for those who are serious to improve their lifes and career outlooks this is not a hurdle. A B1/B2 language level can be achieved within one year of studies and once working in a job in Germany, progress is fast. I remember coming to New York and starting my job – my english was lousy – but after 6 months of watching endless repetitive commercials and reading the New York Times diligently – even if I understood only half of it- the language came to me. I began to understand and use the words without ever looking for a translation. I also have to think about my children. After living for years in India they came to Germany and spoke the language within 6 months with no previous skills.
